Every year, I return to Northern California for a limited number of senior portrait sessions.
Unlike my North Carolina calendar, California dates are scheduled in focused travel windows. That means fewer sessions per trip, more intentional location planning, and highly customized timelines built around light, weather, and access.
Northern California offers some of the most cinematic landscapes in the country — coastal cliffs, vineyards, rolling hills, redwoods, urban Bay Area backdrops.
I build sessions that take full advantage of that. These aren’t “show up and shoot in one field” sessions. They’re curated, multi-location experiences designed to feel expansive.

No stiff posing.
I don’t memorize 25 Pinterest poses and cycle through them. I direct in real time based on personality, body language, and confidence level. We walk. We spin. We run through hills. We change angles constantly. This keeps images alive instead of posed.

I help structure outfits based on location, wind, color palette, and time of day so your gallery feels cohesive — not random.

Epic Locations, Navigated with Precision
Cliffs, beaches, hills, city structures. I've spent 9 years scouting locations and not only that but scouting specific spots within that location that look the best, have the best lighting, don't have spiky weeds, get even shade, etc.
Strategic Light Contol.
Golden hour is beautiful but it's not the only way! In my experience shooting only at golden hour will really limit creativity during a session. I love and know how to shoot sunrise, morning, evenings, AND sunset. Whereas most newer photographers are afraid to shoot outside of golden hour.

what happens after you
INQUIRE ?
If you’re ready, here’s exactly how it works:
1. Choose your package. Select the session experience that fits your vision. Submit an inquiry.
2. Secure your date. I will respond with my available dates/times. Once we pick a date you'll receive a booking link and a signed contract and retainer officially reserve your spot.
3. Pre-session planning. You’ll receive my location guide, outfit and 50+ page prep materials. We’ll refine your session vision together.
4. Meeting info will be sent to you about 10 days before your session with a schedule and any weather updates.
5. Shoot day. We move intentionally, maximize light, and create variety without rushing. I'll pop my changing tent for outfit changes and we'll handle touch-ups as needed with my massive kit.
5. Gallery delivery. Your fully edited online gallery is delivered within three weeks. From there, you’ll select your included images and have the option to purchase additional digitals or prints.

Frequently asked questions
Why is California pricing higher than North Carolina?
I believe in pricing transparency. Because I’m based in Raleigh now, I have to build travel costs into my California sessions - things like flights, lodging, and car rentals. I’m also a Sonoma County native, so when I return, I bring both my local expertise and the same full experience I give my Raleigh clients. I know these locations and lighting like the back of my hand as I've been shooting here for 8 years. The higher rate reflects the cost of making these sessions possible. When + how will I receive my photos?
Your full gallery will be delivered within 3 weeks of your session — but in most cases, you’ll receive your images well before the 2-week mark! I always aim to get your photos to you as quickly as possible without rushing the editing process, so they’re polished, consistent, and beautiful.
You’ll receive a link to your online gallery via email as soon as your images are ready!
How far in advance should
I book my session?
I recommend booking at least 3–4 months in advance, especially for popular seasons like spring and fall. Always check in with me anyways though because I sometimes have some last minute availabilities I can get you in.
What does a pre-selected location slot mean?
When I offer you a date and time at a specific location — for example, “September 15th at Mount Tam at 5 PM” — that means I’m already scheduled to shoot there that evening and can add you as an additional session at that same spot.
I only take two sessions max per evening at a single location. If you take this type of slot, you’re still shooting during golden hour; you’re simply the earlier time instead of the final slot. The lighting is beautiful, soft, and glowy.
(Golden hour for us typically begins about 2.5 hours before sunset.)
What if the weather is bad??
Weather can be unpredictable — but it’s also part of what makes every session unique and beautiful! Here’s what to expect:
☁️ Overcast skies? Totally normal and often ideal for photos. Soft, diffused light helps avoid harsh shadows and brings out rich, true-to-life colors. A heavy overcast with grey gloomy clouds on the other hand is grounds for rescheduling! If bright sun is a non-negotiable for you that's fine we'll chat about it prior to make sure we can accommodate that.
🌬️ A light breeze? We love it! It adds natural movement and makes everything feel a little more alive.
That said, if we’re facing low visibility (like heavy fog) or strong winds that make it hard for you to feel comfortable or keep your hair in place, we’ll go ahead and reschedule for a better day.
I make the final call on all weather-related rescheduling. I only reschedule when conditions will seriously affect your photos (dark/heavy overcast, rain, or winds 16mph+ with 28mph+ gusts). Normal cloud cover is totally fine and does not qualify for a reschedule. If you prefer a sunnier look, you’re welcome to move your date, but it’s considered a voluntary reschedule and includes a $65 fee.
Can I choose the location?
Absolutely! I provide a curated list of my favorite spots from fields and gardens to coastal views but if you have a special place in mind I'm absolutely open to using it.
How do I receive my photos?
I use an online gallery to deliver my galleries. When your gallery is ready you'll get an email with a link to your beautiful gallery along with instructions on how to choose your photos and download them. It will have info on purchasing any extra photos outside of your package included ones.
