If you’re starting to plan your senior photos, this is usually the first big question:
Do I need a full two-hour session… or is one hour enough?
And the honest answer is—it depends on the experience you want.
Because this isn’t just about time. It’s about how much variety, creativity, and freedom you want your session to have.
So let’s break it down in a way that actually makes sense!!
The 1-Hour Session (Simple, Focused, Effortless)

If you’re someone who wants something beautiful but low-stress and streamlined, a one-hour session is perfect.
This looks like:
One location
Two outfits (or 1 if you're jsut in love with it!)
A more focused, efficient shoot
My one-hour sessions are:
[Indie Package] in North Carolina
[Aspen Package] in California
[Sage Package] with my associate, Brooklyn (California)
This option is perfect if:
You want a clean, cohesive gallery
You don’t love being in front of the camera for long periods of time
You just want a handful of really strong images
You’re keeping things simple and don’t want to overthink it
It’s very “show up, be present, get something beautiful, and be done.”
When done righ, with us, one hour is more than enough to get beautiful beautiful images.
The 2-Hour (or 2–3 Hour) Session
(Creative, Dynamic, More You)

If you want your session to feel more like an experience—this is where things open up.
This looks like:
Multiple locations (think beach + cliffs, field + downtown, etc.)
4 outfits with intention and contrast
Time to ease into the camera and build confidence
Space for spontaneity (some of the best moments happen in between locations)
My extended sessions are:
[Adventure Package] in North Carolina (2 hours)
[Sierra Package] in California (2–3 hours)
[Bell Package] with Brooklyn in California (2 hours)
This option is perfect if:
You want a lot of variety in your gallery
You love the idea of multiple “looks” or aesthetics
You’re a little nervous and want time to warm up
You want those cinematic, in-between, candid moments
You’re going for a more editorial or storytelling feel
This is where we can really create something that feels like you in multiple environments, not just one.
So… Which One Should You Choose?
Here’s the simplest way to think about it:
👉 Choose a 1-hour session if: You want something simple, beautiful, and efficient.
👉 Choose a 2+ hour session if: You want variety, movement, and a more elevated experience. Neither one is “better”—they’re just different.
My Personal Take (from photographing seniors for years)
If you’re torn between the two, I usually recommend going longer.
Not because you need more time, but because:
It gives you space to relax
It allows for more creativity
And it almost always results in a more dynamic gallery
But if your vision is simple and intentional, a one-hour session will absolutely deliver.
Final Thoughts....

At the end of the day, your senior photos should feel like:
you
your personality
your season of life
Not rushed, not forced, not overly complicated.
Just something real and beautiful.
If you’re still not sure which direction to go, you can always reach out and I’ll help you decide based on your vision 🤍
